Conferences
The AS Conference is the most important academic event organized by the Academy of Sociology. Conferences are generally held every two years.
The three-day event focuses on a main theme in the social sciences, which is supplemented by presentations on other topics (open sessions). The Executive Board decides on the main theme and the location of the conference.
Previous conferences of the Academy of Sociology have focused on key societal developments and challenges: the rise of social inequality (Munich, 2018), the digitization of society (Konstanz, 2019), social cohesion (Leipzig/Online, 2021), and "Knowledge Societies" (Bern, 2023). The most recent conference took place under the theme “Societal Challenges – Sociological Answers?” (Mainz, 2025).
Building on these debates, the sixth conference of the Academy, held to mark its tenth anniversary, focuses on the future of analytical-empirical sociology itself.
